The HoloLens from Microsoft has been recognized as one of the more advanced virtual reality headsets to be made. Sadly, however, Microsoft just may not be able to release the VR device on a commercial level this year.

Apparently, HoloLens’ high end price is one of the biggest reasons for the delay. According to a report, Microsoft’s VR headset can be purchased for $2,999. This cost is attributed to its Holographic technology. With this new feature, HoloLens can project 2D holograms onto the user’s field of vision.

A developer edition of HoloLens VR has been available in the market since March of last year, but there has still been no news on the availability of its consumer version. The ones made for the tech consumers’ market are most likely going to be made by 3Glasses, HP, Dell, Acer, or Lenovo. It is highly possible for these commercial HoloLens versions to be launched by the end of 2017 with a starting price of $299.

While waiting, however, a 21-year-old college student from Nevada came up with a HoloLens VR app that is a bit like “Pokemon GO.” Asad Malik is pursuing a degree in augmented reality and is currently building on his project, “YouTube of augmented reality,” for Microsoft’s HoloLens.

This platform of his is expected to be capable of housing a variety of VR/AR HoloLens experiences. One of the projects that he has already finished is the “Harry Potter” experience.

He came up with three spells that can be projected to real-time surroundings. There is the “Incendio” for creating fires within the VR world of “Harry Potter GO,” “Wingardium Leviosa” for making digital items float, and “Expecto Patronum” for warding off the occasional Dementor. Users of this HoloLens VR app can conjure the spells with their voice, in addition to a physical wand that can be used with gesture tracking.
