"Apocalypse Now" is regarded as one of the most award-winning films of this generation and it is getting a video game counterpart. This is after Director Francis Ford Coppola gave his blessing and go signal for the release of the up-and-coming game from studio American Zeotrope. Fans of the said movie will be enjoying the smell of napalm in the morning as the masterpiece will be turned into a video game.
The director himself gave the rights for "Apocalypse Now" video game to the developers American Zoetrope with the statement on the Kickstarter page saying he is excited to discover the possibilities of having his masterpiece in a different platform and catering a new generation. In the crowdfunding page, the game was described to be immersive, psychedelic horror RPG which a lot of players will be thrust into the shoes of Captain Benjamin Willard. He will then embark in a journey to Vietnam to search for Colonel Kurtz and his missing troops.
The game will not be following the "Apocalypse Now" film story through the jungle but the developers have laid their hands on giving a new spin on the famous tale. While unexpected, alternate retelling may actually work for the fans as "Gears of War" writer Rob Auten and "Pillars of Eternity" director Josh Sawyer will be involved. Aside from them, Lawrence Liberty, "The Witcher" executive producer will partner with Montgomery Markland of "Wasteland 2" to give the kickstart credentials something to look forward to.
American Zoetrope surely has the creds and the story will definitely be a blast for "Apocalypse Now" entering a new medium. According to reports, the concept shows it will be a dark game and will have higher demand from players than "Spec Ops: The Line" as there will be instances that players will have to crawl their way through mud in Vietnam among other things. The focus will be majorly on the survival horror aspect of war and says it will not be something like "Call of Duty" set in Vietnam. No release date yet has been given for the video game as of this moment.
