Gizmo giant Samsung is expected to introduce its new tablet, Galaxy Note 10.1, giving stiff competition to the new iPad.

The Galaxy Note 10.1 was launched in February 2012 and will finally be marketed worldwide at the end of Aug. 2012. With slight tweaks imbibed into the device, when compared to the launch version, will Galaxy Note 10.1 give the new iPad tough competition in the battle of the tablets?

Galaxy Note 10.1 sports a 10.1-inch screen with 1280 x 800 resolution (149 ppi pixel density). It packs a punch with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and includes Samsung's TouchWiz touch interface. It uses a quad-core 1.4-GHz processor, has 2GB of RAM, and 16/32/64 GB of internal hard disk storage space. Notably, the Galaxy 10.1 also offers a microSD card slot with expandable memory of up to 64 GB. The tablet will also have a 5-megapixel and 1.9-megapixel rear-facing and front-facing cameras, respectively.

The new iPad, on the contrary, offers a 9.7-inch display screen with a higher resolution of 2048 x 1536 pixels (264 ppi pixel density). However, the new iPad uses 1GB of RAM and an A5X 1GHz processor. Similar to the Galaxy Note 10.1, iPad is also available in 16/32/64 GB storage versions. However, the option to expand the internal storage is not at hand. The new iPad boasts of 5-megapixel rear-facing camera but features a front-facing VGA camera for FaceTime (video chats).

Galaxy Note 10.1, takes a leaf out of iPad's book and will be introduced with all three connectivity options: a Wi-Fi-only version, Wi-Fi plus HSPA+ version , and a Wi-Fi plus LTE version available later this year. However, it is unclear if the LTE version will be rolled out worldwide.

Something unique to the Galaxy Note is a digital stylus, Samsung's S-Pen. The integrated S-Pen allows users freeform writing and drawing, differentiating itself from other rival tablets. The "Multiscreen" feature is a novel one and enables users to operate two apps at the same time on the screen. Multitasking on a split-screen mode is a gizmo lover's dream come true.

No official pricing for the Galaxy Note 10.1 is available yet. However, TabletsMagazine reports that the Galaxy Tab 10.1 will cost €479 ($593) for the Wi-Fi-only 16GB model and €599 ($741) for the HSPA+ version.

With a whopping 68 percent, Apple still holds a majority of the tablet market share. With the ever increasing tablet competition, will iPad continue to impress its consumers and get an edge over its rival? Will new products like the Galaxy Note 10.1 pull the rug from underneath iPad's feet? Long term, which device survives in the battle of the tablet titans is anybody's guess.
