Asus has just launched its own credit card sized PC to rival the Raspberry Pi. The Asus Tinker Board is about the same size with the Raspberry Pi measuring at 3.4in x 2.4 in. However, the similarity ends there as the Tinker Board is tagged as a more powerful pocket size PC.

According to Asus, the Tinker Board is made to provide an alternative to Raspberry Pi. The Tinker Board is said to have higher SoC performance, flexible memory size, faster Ethernet transmission and supports 4K.

The Tinker Board will be featuring Asus's own software. The Asus software is said to be a variant of Debian Linus and is similar to the OS that the Raspberry Pi currently has. Asus is also thinking of expanding the Tinker Board current OS support, from only Kodi and Hexus to openSUSE and Ubuntu.

With a £55 price tag, the Asus Tinker Board is more expensive compared to the £34 Raspberry Pi. However, users do get what they pay for in purchasing the Asus Tinker Board.

The Asus Tinker Board features a 2gb Dual channel LPDDR3 Ram as its engine. This is 1gb upgrade compared to what the Raspberry Pi currently has. Users are also allowed to create IoT devices with the Asus pocket size PC as it comes with 40-pin internal header with 28GPIO pins.

The Tinker Board also comes with four USB 2.0 ports and a single HDMI 2.0 port. For connectivity, the Raspberry Pi rival will have Gigabit LAN, Bluetooth 4.0 and 802.11 b/g/n WiFi support.

The Asus Tinker Board is currently only available in Europe. No announcements have been made by Asus if they will be making the pocket size Raspberry Pi alternative available in the US market. According to reports, the Asus Tinker Board is currently out of stock or unavailable in major online stores.
