Metallica’s new album, “Hardwired...To Self Destruct,” is still not the band’s best one. According to the group’s frontman, James Hetfield, their drive to keep making a record better than the one before is “innate” to them.

“We have not wrote the best record yet,” Hetfield said, according to Blabbermouth. “We are going to. I would not know when it is. We always like moving forward, creating new stuff.”

Kirk Hammett, Metallica’s guitarist, revealed that Metallica’s new album “has elements” of their other hits, such as “Ride the Lightning,” “Master [Of Puppets],” and “Kill ‘Em All,” among others.

According to Hammett, the album is different from their previous albums, even if the hymns of the songs somewhat reflect their previous tracks. “It is a perfect musical statement for where the bad is at in this point of time in the 21st century,” Hammett added.

As it would turn out, the band has been working on Metallica’s new album since 2014. Their recording sessions even took a couple of years. “So, the years just started to add up over time,” Hammett continued. “By the time we finished this album, it had been eight years.”

For fans who have been anticipating for Metallica’s new album, having to wait for eight long years is no easy task. It would seem that the band members also share the same feeling. “I admit, eight years is just way too long to wait for anything,” Hammett stated.

Hammett is hopeful that the band can finish their next album in just two to four years. After all, he has some spare source material that he was not able to use for “Hardwired...To Self-Destruct.” “It will be a lot faster,” he said. “I will have had all those other riffs that I did not use for this album.”
