The fate of "The Originals" Season 4 is up in the air, as the show was not included in the list of dramas that have been renewed on The CW. In a recent interview with the network's president, Mark Pedowitz, he explained the network's decision to withhold the show's renewal order, reports Deadline.

According to Pedowitz, "The Originals" Season 4 renewal would have to depend on a lot of things, including its performance (aka ratings). Pedowitz expressed optimism that series creator Julie Plec would be able to deliver his expectations on the show.

"I'm hoping that 'The Originals' can continue," he said.

Plec also responded to Pedowitz's statement on the future of "The Originals" Season 4 via a Twitter post. Plec was willing to take on The CW boss' challenge of delivering their expectations, as the series creator shared that she has "big plans" for the show's upcoming episodes.

Rumors surrounding the fate of "The Originals" Season 4 began after The CW announced that "The Vampire Diaries" was ending after Season 8. The network's decision is primarily based on its ratings, which dropped since Nina Dobrev left the series.

"The Originals" has been experiencing a couple of drops in ratings in seasons 1 through 3. However, fans remain optimistic that with the right storyline, the "TVD" spinoff series will be able to survive another season on TV.
