Crysis, at least in its first entry, provided an open world with a loose narrative while players had the choice to approach the situation uniquely. The series is also known for its graphics engine pushing current technology to the limit, but developer Crytek said it could release a Wii U version.
Cyrtek producer Mike Reid told video game website CVG "I wouldn't say there's no chance. I wouldn't say no chance. I mean the Wii U still doesn't have any kind of release [date] attached to it at this point. Who knows what the future will bring with it. I can definitely say that we are working with Nintendo, and that's all about I can say on that front."
Reid went on to say that "there has really been no official releases associated with Wii U yet, and given that we're releasing Crysis in a eight month time period in February of 2013, we can't play off what the schedules are. I wouldn't rule it out but it is, you know, a possibility,"
The Wii U has been criticized, despite being a next-generation console, for offering performance comparable to current HD consoles. Rumors have surfaced claiming that the performance of the console is below and above levels set by the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Nintendo, though, is yet to reveal the specifications of the console.
While cautious over a Crysis 3 Wii U version, there's a "fat chance" - i.e., no chance, seemingly - over Crysis 3 coming to Wii U, according to director of creative development Rasmus Hoejengaard at Crytek.
The issue is if Crytek has to reduce the scope of the game to make Crysis 3 work on Wii U, how different will it be compared to the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions? The E3 2012 trailer showed a close quarters, high octane, sequence. The developers have claimed that the open world of Crysis 1 and the linear structure of Crysis 2 will be blended.
Crysis 3 releases February 2013 for Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3.
