Tesla has surprised everyone by launching two new rounds of the referral program, something that the electric vehicle maker has never done before. One is a quarterly round and the other an annual round. The program offers new prizes to referrers as new buyers are still receiving a $1,000 discount. The program has also brought back opportunities to win a Tesla Model X or Model S based on a person's performance in the program.

According to Electrek, the new quarterly round has already launched on Jan. 16 and will continue till March 15. Referral limit has also gone down from 10 to eight. The invitation of the event has now been confirmed as the "Model 3 Delivery Event" and Tesla has also added a "Tesla Model S for Kids" prize. As per the program, 7+ qualifying referrals will allow owners to attend the Model 3 Delivery Event along with another guest.

For 5+ qualifying referrals, owners will receive an exclusive red Founders Series Powerwall 2. It's not available to the public. Those who make three qualifying referrals will receive a Founders Series Tesla Model S for Kids. The miniature drivable electric Model S will have a charge port, sound system and working headlights. Those who make two or more referrals will get a Tesla carry-on.

However, Tesla fans will be overjoyed to know that the other referral program, known as the "Annual Awards," will have the best prizes, Tesla Model S or X P100D Ludicrous. One who makes 20 referrals per region will win a new vehicle. A break-up of the various prizes has been given below.

The sales regions are Asia-Pacific, Europe and North America. The first person who refers 20 friends starting Jan. 16 in each sales region will receive a P100D Model S or Model X. Once the friends have taken delivery of the vehicles, the referrers will be invited to configure their award. Those who make 20+ qualifying referrals will be allowed to swap their cars with the latest Tesla of their choice for a week and also receive a weekend getaway at a destination charging resort.
