The "Mad Max" franchise took more 30 years to be followed through with another action film. "Mad Max: Fury Road" in 2015 proved to be a good adrenaline rush for its fans. It had the same post-apocalyptic tone that was set entirely in a barren desert landscape.

In addition to appeasing its fan base, the "Mad Max" sequel also satisfied an entirely new generation and even brought six Oscars at the 2016 Academy Awards. That said, Tom Hardy, who plays the lead role of Max Rockatansky, revealed to Collider that he is "anxiously waiting" for yet another follow-up film.

According to Hardy, the film could also be focusing on the backstory of another member of the main cast, the character that Charlize Theron portrayed. "What is wonderful about George Miller is that he has created sagas for Max and sagas for Furiosa," he said. "So, it is what he chooses to focus in on. I am really just waiting for the call."

Apparently the "Mad Max" sequel is coming, it is just a matter of determining precisely when. In fact, Hardy has confirmed that there are three more films to come, but he is not sure what the titles are going to be. "I have signed to do three of them," he said. "It is a question of when. I am not sure it is called 'The Wasteland' or not, because you never know. These titles change all the time."

Miller gave the franchise an entirely new life. It remains unclear whose saga will be used for the three upcoming chapters - or if each film will feature a different saga.

"Mad Max: Fury Road" may have been successful in the box office, but Screen Rant has reported that it was primarily because of the franchise's pre-established fan base. After all, "Mad Max" fans waited for three decades. That said, the risk for three more films lies on whether Miller can continue what he had started.
