It looks like Disney wants to release a new Santa Claus-themed project eleven years after the company last released a sequel to its "The Santa Claus" film series starring Tim Allen. Some reports say that Anna Kendrick could star in the upcoming movie "Nicole."
Variety has revealed that Anna Kendrick is being considered for an "untitled Disney Santa Claus film." The upcoming project, which has the running title of "Nicole," will be penned by Marc Lawrence ("Miss Congeniality," "Forces of Nature," "Miss Congeniality 2: Armed and Fabulous").
The film will allegedly focus on Nicole, the daughter of Santa Claus, who is suddenly tasked with giving gifts to children all around the world when her father retires. When her brother loses his nerve before his first "big Christmas eve flight," Nicole will have to take the reins to save Christmas.
The film will be produced by Susanne Todd ("Die Hard 2," "Idle Hands," "Alice in Wonderland") and Louie Provost will oversee the film for Disney. Aside from writing the film's script, Lawrence will also be directing "Nicole."
"Nicole" is the first film that Lawrence will direct after he worked on Hugh Grant's "The Rewrite" in 2014. Lawrence is also known for "Two Weeks Notice," "Music and Lyrics," and "Did You Hear About the Morgans?" the other projects that he also worked on with Grant.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Kendrick's latest film project was "The Accountant," which also starred Ben Affleck ("Good Will Hunting," "Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice"). If the actress bags the role, this will be her second Disney project. She previously appeared as Cinderella in the live-action Disney musical "Into the Woods."
Her latest projects include Dreamworks Animation's "Trolls," where she voiced and sang for the character Princess Poppy. Kendrick is currently working on the "Pitch Perfect" sequel "Pitch Perfect 3," which is slated for a Dec. release this year.
