Looking to get the latest version of Android, 4.1 Jelly Bean onto the Samsung Galaxy S3, but don't want to wait for Samsung's official update? Pay attention, because below are the instructions on installing CyanogenMod 10 (CM10) for the Galaxy S3, courtesy of Android Authority.

XDA developer XpLoDWilD released the Jelly Bean ROM for the Samsung Galaxy S3, though CM10 isn't ready for daily use according to the developer due to missing features: FM Radio is missing and the camera isn't stable. Wi-Fi tethering is also not reliably functioning.

Still, if Project Butter and Google Now are desirable features then read on for installing CyanogenMod 10. Bear in mind that there is a risk of losing data and mobilenapps.com is not responsible for consequences users could experience.

The guide below works only with the i9300 model of the Samsung Galaxy S3; heading to Settings, About Phone will show the device's model number. It's advised to back up data and APN settings beforehand as personal information i.e., data, apps, and settings will be removed.

How-to

Install the CM9 ROM on the Galaxy S3 from the XDA-Developers forum thread. Then download the Google App package, and copy the ROM and App package onto the SD card.

Now, switch off the Galaxy S3 to boot into ClockworkMod recovery. Pressing Volume Up, the Home button, and the power button together will boot into the recovery mode. When the screen turns on, stop pressing the buttons. Wait a moment and a list of options will be presented; navigation is done through the volume buttons (up/down) and selecting options is done via the Home button.

Navigate to "wipe data/factory reset," select the option, and then "Yes" to confirm. After the aforementioned information is wiped, choose the install zip option from the SDcard. Navigate to the ROM file, and select "Yes" again to begin installation.

Once installation is complete, choose the zip file again and the Google Apps package "gapps-jb-20120703.zip" file. After being selected, return to the main recovery menu and select the option to reboot.

Afterwards, CM10 will be installed on the Samsung Galaxy S3. It's not advised to install the mod on a device relied upon, due to the incomplete nature.
