Fans of the ABC hit comedy TV series, "Modern Family" will have to wait a little bit further for the official announcement of a Season 9 as negotiations for the extension of the popular comedy show are still underway. Meanwhile, fans are in for a great season 8 as several surprises are still in store in the remaining episodes of the "Modern Family" including some high profile guests' appearances.

Though the ratings of the "Modern Family" has suffered a bit of a decline lately, fans of the hit comedy series are still optimistic for a Season 9 especially since the show has remained as the highest-rated comedy series for ABC. Also, "Modern Family" is one of the most decorated TV series under the ABC banner having won Emmy's best comedy series five times.

According to ABC entertainment president, Channing Dungey, negotiations at this stage of the popular TV show is a bit tricky. In an interview with the Deadline, Dungey revealed that renegotiation for the next season of "Modern Family" is a bit more complicated but there is optimism from both sides. ABC is currently in talks with 20th TV for the licensing fee deal for "Modern Family".

Given the length of run of the popular comedy series, ABC will have to shoulder the salaries of the "Modern Family" cast and crew. This scenario makes renegotiation for a next season a bit more complicated than the previous seasons. Though Dungey would like to add more than one season for "Modern Family", she said that the focus now is to first figure out the next season.

During the same interview, Dungey also revealed that the company has also started renegotiation for the next season of another hit comedy series. ABC and Warner Bros. TV is currently in talks for the next season of hit comedy TV show "The Middle".
