Honda is proud to introduce its newest innovation to autonomous vehicles with its self-balancing motorcycle. The new technology was presented during CES 2017 held in Las Vegas. Apart from the self-stabilizing motorbike, the Japanese company also unveiled the first ride-sharing car concept called the New Electric Urban Vehicle (NeuV).

Unlike the regular bikes that depend on gyroscopes for balancing, the self-stabilizing motorcycle by Honda embeds a "Riding Assist" technology that relies on the balancing system found in the company's bipedal robot called Asimo. The motorbike also uses the design of Honda Uni-Cub, a personal mobility scooter intended for indoor use, reportedly.

A report by Wired detailed the engineering implemented on the upcoming self-balancing motorbike. As per the report, the vehicle uses a steer-by-wire electronic method wherein the handlebars from the bike's front forks will disengage when it runs below 3 mph. The process allows the switch of vehicle control to the computer system.

Additionally, the front forks angles of the bike are also being adjusted automatically by lowering the center part for the improvement of its stability. Interestingly, the motorcycle's technology is also programmed to detect lean angles. That said, the vehicle would steer the wheel to left or right for several (thousands) times per second to maintain balance and to prevent turning over.

Meanwhile, Honda also showcased its new concept car at CES 2017, the NeuV. It's a self-driving vehicle that could perform daily errands while the owner does more important work. Designed for the ride-sharing market, the NeuV may be utilized by more people other than its owner as it can be programmed to do tasks for others such as picking up and dropping off passengers, The Verge reported.

NeuV is also said to equip an "emotion engine" and a personal assistant that study the patterns and reactions of its owner and recommend tips about daily driving habits according to its analysis. No further details have been announced about the official launches of the NeuV and self-balancing motorcycle, however.
