Charging electric cars may not be such a time taking task now, as it used to be. ChargePoint, the world's largest electric vehicle (EV) charging network, announced its latest charging platform "ChargePoint Express Plus" at the CES 2017. The new platform uses Ultra-Fast DC Charging, which the tech giant claims can recharge an EV about 8 times faster than the current charging stations.

The biggest problem, the EV car drivers face at present is the waste of precious time waiting for their cars to be fully charged. If what the company claims is true, the "ChargePoint Express Plus" may lead to a widespread adoption of electric vehicles. ChargePoint, a California-based company will introduce new ultra-fast DC charging that will support both current as well as upcoming electric vehicle (EV) designs. The company also stated previously that the new network is well equipped to charge the latest Bolt EV as well as the upcoming Tesla Model 3.

The future vehicles will reportedly comprise of higher range EVs as well as Electric Trucks and Buses. Pasquale Romano, CEO of ChargePoint, claims that the new "ChargePoint Express Plus" platform will offer both ultra-fast DC charging and high-power charging for these vehicles respectively. With more than 31,000 charging spots around the country, the company plans to make traveling a trouble-less experience for the EV owners.

The new "ChargePoint Express Plus" modular platform has been designed specifically for the charging centers located along major roadways. The chargers have the capacity to deliver as maximum as 400 kilowatts (kW) to an EV. Tesla's Supercharger can at present juice up 170 miles of range in its EVs in about 30 minutes. The new Express Plus platform, on the other hand, claims to charge up an EV 8 times faster than the current charging rate.

Along with the "ChargePoint Express Plus", the tech giant also introduced another standalone DC fast-charging station, the ChargePoint Express 250. The charging station adds up 90 miles of range to an EV in just 30 minutes. According to recent reports, EVs will take up more than 35 percent of global car sales by 2040. If that's the case than Chargepoint's fast charging platform may aid in the transformation.

The new "ChargePoint Express Plus" has a modular design so that the system can be easily modified to increase its output capacity. The current system is capable of giving up to a megawatt over a maximum number of eight charging stations, where each station will give out power ranging from 50 kilowatts to 400 kilowatts.
