Only recently did we get the news that Kenneth Branagh is remaking Agatha Christie's classic mystery novel "Murder on the Orient Express" into a new age movie. The Irish actor, who found Hollywood fame when he starred in "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets" is going to both direct the movie as well as play the main role of the celebrated detective "Hercule Poirot".
This character was one of the most important ones developed by Christie. The upcoming movie will have an interesting cast ensemble and recent news indicate that Willem Dafoe will also be featured in the movie.
One may remember Willem Dafoe from "Spiderman" and "The Antichrist", an actor known for playing characters with varying shades. The shooting for the remake of "Murder on the Orient Express" began last November and the movie is slated to be released in November 2017.
The new age adaption of the movie will also feature Johnny Depp and Judi Dench, which ups the glam factor of the movie. Dench is going to be cast as Russian Princess Dragomiroff. Michelle Pfeiffer is also going to be cast in the film as Mrs Harriet Hubbard. The part was originally offered to Angelina Jolie.
Johnny Depp will play the original victim in the book, Ratchett. The intriguing fact about Ratchett's character was that everyone had the motive to kill him. Josh Gad is slated to play his nervous translator, Hector. Willem Dafoe is going to be cast as Mr Hardman, a salesman who was travelling on the train and may have some strong ties to the murder.
Penelope Cruz may also make an appearance but the news is not official yet. Branagh's last project was the Disney live-action movie "Cinderella". As far as "Murder on the Orient Express" is concerned, the screenplay is written by Michael Green. Ridley Scott, Simon Kinberg, Mark Gordon, and Branagh will produce the movie along with Michael Schaefer and Aditya Sood.
