Many people that are highly tempted to buy the new Samsung Galaxy S3 are also insecure about whether they should wait for the iPhone 5 or not. Well, deciding which of these two world-leading smartphones is better is a hard task. It is important to remember that, as all other technological devices, smartphones are innovating for a couple of months until something better is introduced. So, no matter how impressive the Samsung Galaxy S3 might look right now, it is almost for sure that the iPhone 5 will be a lot better in many aspects when it releases. Or at least, this is what many people expect to see from Apple, which is the reason why they have been holding their backs against buying the new Samsung flagship phone.

It is important to mention that one of these two devices hasn't even been announced formally by its producers; the iPhone 5. So all we know about it, even the fact of its very existence, is based on rumors and leaks of information. Now, all the information about the Samsung Galaxy S3 is totally certain, which ensures clients what they are getting. The main dilemma here is that it is hard to judge which device is better when all we know about one of them could be partly or even entirely false.

Display

And, even if the rumors are true, the iPhone 5 does have a powerful rival to beat. For instance, when it comes to display, Galaxy S3 boasts of 4.8-inch Super AMOLED display (1280x720 pixels resolution) and pixel density of 310ppi (pixels per inch). iPhone 4S has pixel density of 330ppi, which is expected to be bumped up to 367ppi in iPhone 5, which is expected to boast of 4-inch display (1280x720 pixels resolution) with 367ppi.

Processor

As for processor, Galaxy S3 packs 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 processor with 2GB RAM in the U.S. while the international version packs Exynos quad-core 1.4GHz processor with 1GB RAM. No official word from Apple about what processor will iPhone 5 pack, but rumors are buzzing that it may pack a variant of A5X chip, which powers the new iPad.

Camera

In the camera segment, neither of the smartphones hold an edge over the other - Galaxy S3 has a 8-megapixel rear-facing shooter with zero shutter lag and 1.9-megapixel front-facing camera for video chat. iPhone 4S already packs a 8-megapixel camera, so iPhone 5 will definitely come with a sensor with the same number of megapixels, if not more. We don't know what features iPhone 5's camera will pack but we do know that between iPhone 4S and Galaxy S3, the latter smartphone's camera comes feature-packed, such as panoramic shooting, burst mode and more.

Internal Storage

Internal storage-wise, Galaxy S3, however, takes the lead. The Samsung device comes in 16/32/64GB options and so will iPhone 5, but the latter will not come with microSD card slot unlike the former.

OS

As for the OS, Galaxy S3 comes with Android 4.0 (ICS) out of the box with TouchWiz overlay, while iPhone 5 will be powered by iOS 6, the latest mobile operating system that was unveiled by Apple at the WWDC 2012 in June. Galaxy S3 boasts of features such as S Voice, S Beam, Smart Stay, Direct Call, Smart Alert and Pop Up Play, while iPhone 5 is expected to come with exciting features such as Siri 2.0, Universal remote control, Face Unlock and a host of other features, which were showcased at the WWDC 2012 during the iOS 6 unveil. Note: Galaxy S3 will taste the latest Jelly Bean (Android 4.1) OS, which was outed at the recently concluded Google I/O developer's conference but don't expect the update to arrive this year as Samsung is notoriously slow in bringing the latest Android OS to its devices.

Connectivity

Galaxy S3 supports 4G LTE, gaining an edge over iPhone 4S but this lead is expected to be short-lived as iPhone 5 will too support 4G LTE network in the U.S, very much like the new iPad.

Price and Availability

Galaxy S3 is available across all the major wireless carriers in the U.S. and so is iPhone 4S. iPhone 5 will not only see networks like Verizon, AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile support iPhone 5 but also other networks like Cricket Wireless and Virgin Mobile, which have begun selling prepaid iPhone 4 and 4S, are expected to jump on the gravy train. Price-wise, Galaxy S3 and iPhone 5 will be similar - Galaxy S3 16GB is priced at $199.99 with 2-year contract and so is iPhone 4S, which means iPhone 5 will be priced similarly too. However, 32GB Galaxy S3 is priced at $249.99 (with 2 year contract), while iPhone 4S is for $299.99, making the Samsung smartphone more cost-effective.

Conclusion

Samsung Galaxy S3 or iPhone 5? It's a tough decision but it all comes down to whether you like Android or OS. Right now, Galaxy S3 has specs good enough to beat iPhone 4S but iPhone 5 could turn the table in favor of Apple.

In conclusion, if you're in rush to get an impressive device, go ahead, buy the Galaxy S3. But, if you're ready to wait, we would suggest that you wait till Apple announces iPhone 5's debut. The sixth generation iPhone is going to come with plenty of bells and whistles and we're sure you won't be disappointed.
