It appears that fans of the "Star Wars" franchise will meet a familiar character in the upcoming season of the animated show "Star Wars Rebels." Disney XD has released a new trailer for "Ghosts of Geonosis," a two-part episode in the third season of the spin-off "Star Wars" show.
Saw Gerrera recently appeared in the latest film "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" as the leader of the Partisans. The group is an extremist faction of the Rebel Alliance, and they are based on the planet Jedha. Saw took care of Jyn, the main character of the movie, who was left to fend for herself when her mother was murdered and Galen, her father, was imprisoned by the Empire.
A younger version of Saw also appeared in "The Clone Wars" and was voiced by Andrew Kishino, but he will return as a slightly older man in "Star Wars Rebels." Saw will be voiced by Forest Whitaker in "Rebels," the same actor who portrayed him in "Rogue One."
In the promo featured on Slash Film, avid fans of the franchise can get a glimpse of his role in the animated Disney XD show. The teaser video showcased the crew of the Ghost embarking on a mission to find Saw, but they find themselves involved in a more complicated plot.
Screen Rant reports that Saw was originally created as a character for "Star Wars: Underworld," an abandoned show by George Lucas that was supposed to take place between the events of "Episode III: Revenge of the Sith" and "Episode IV: A New Hope." While "Underworld" was canceled after Disney purchased Lucasfilm and the "Star Wars" franchise, the character Saw Gerrera still managed to appear in both animated shows and live-action movies.
The Saw Gerrera in "Ghosts of Geonosis" is much younger than the older Saw in "Rogue One." The two-part episode of "Star Wars Rebels" will air on Jan. 7 later this week at 8:30 p.m. on Disney XD.
