If you tend to be very aware of your Facebook status, you have probably already noticed that Facebook surprisingly changed your email contact address to one ending up with "facebook.com." Well, this definitely commercial move has made thousands of users upset. There are shocking amounts of comments, forums and even blogs criticizing Facebook and questioning whether this was a legit move or not.

Most of all the comments in forums and Twitter are strongly demanding Facebook for an explanation about the reason why their contact email was changed. No one allowed these changes, and they were just done by Facebook without announcement, which has been causing some intense controversy in the media.

"Who in the hell do you think you are to change my email address without my permission?" said Michael McFatridge, a common Facebook user at a community forum. This is just an idea of how mad people seem to be. Some people are even blaming Facebook for violating their privacy and contact security.

So, what is the commercial reason why Facebook could've done this movement, and especially why did it happened so quietly? Well, when it comes to Internet, a site's success lays directly on the amount of visitors it gets. In this case, the more visitors Facebook gets the more money it makes. So, by changing users' email address from sites like Gmail, Yahoo and Hotmail to Facebook, they assure to keep as much traffic as possible in the site. This will generate tons of profit for them. However, why couldn't they ask people or at least let them know before changing them?

Well, because most of all people like to keep a certain distance between their email addresses (mostly used for business and formal matters) and facebook (used for fun). So obviously, more than a fifty percent of Facebook users would've rejected the change, forcing this world-leading site to lose 50% of its so-wanted profit.

Facebook, in the other hand, seems unperturbed. They say that this change was made in order to make communication a lot simpler and more comfortable for users. However, now that they have seen so many critics about it, they affirm that this email changing is up to every user, and it can be changed back whenever the users want. They also added that the log-in email will not change, nor will the one to receive notifications and news.

So, it is understandable that Facebook wants to profit more. However, users must be definitely treated with much more respect when it is about a matter of personal information and privacy.
