Valve has revealed a list of 100 most-downloaded games in 2016 from its platform Steam. This is the last chance for Steam players get great discounts on the titles, especially for those who missed out on the Steam Winter Sale. All the top 100 game prices have been slashed and some of them are even being offered at 80 percent discount. Valve has divided the 100 games under four categories, namely, Platinum, Gold, Silver and Bronze.
The bestsellers in the Steam 100 games list are "Dota 2," "Xcom 2," and "No Man's Sky." The Gold division top grosser includes "Stardew Valley," "Doom" and "Call of Duty: Black Ops III." The list is pretty big and those who are looking to take advantage of the slashed prices must head to Steam immediately before the sale ends Jan. 2, 2017, 10 a.m. PT/1 p.m. ET, writes Tech Times.
Going by the list, it seems that the dominance of the AAA game titles, at least on PC, is slowly ending. As per INQUISTR, developers are now aware of the fact that even they risk thousands of dollars on a game, they can be easily beaten by someone in the market with a PC and some free time. The list of Steam's top-selling games of 2016 provides great insights on how the gaming industry is changing.
The list features the top-grossing games of 2016 rather than top-selling games. There are quite a few surprises in the top slot with free-to-play titles getting bigger than ever before. Moreover, the list also includes a number of games from past years that are still holding strong. Bethesda's "Fallout 4" was released in November 2015 and it was in the second place that year. In 2016, it's at the top.
Other past year top rankers, Valve as included in the Platinum series, include "Counter-Strike: Global Offensive" (2012), Rockstar's "Grand Theft Auto V," CD Projekt Red's "The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt" and many more such games. Free-to-play games are also taking top slots with Digital Extremes' "Warframe" (2013) and "Team Fortress 2" (2007) finding a place in Gold and "DOTA 2" (2013) in Platinum.
