Major tablet manufacturers are trying to win the battle of tabs by introducing more and more killer products. And now, veteran players like Samsung, Asus and Acer are going to face a new rival. For quite some time, rumors about the Google Nexus, an affordable 7-inch tablet which Google is expected to launch at Google I/O, have been hitting the blogosphere and the recent buzz has suggested that the tablet is just days away from getting unwrapped. The folks over at Gizmodo Australia claim to have obtained an internal training document, according to which the Google-branded 7-inch tablet is being manufactured by Asus and will be named Nexus 7.
According to the report, the tablet will be unveiled this week at Google I/O conference and will get a release date of sometime in July with an estimated price tag in the range of $199 and $249.
Key Specs
Confirming the tech buzz, Gizmodo's source said the tablet will come powered by Nvidia Tegra 3 processor clocked at 1.3Ghz and Android 4.1 Jelly Bean OS, the newest version of Android.
Adding on the 7-inch IPS display, the tablet will have a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels and will also come equipped with 1GB of RAM on board. The Nexus 7 would be available with 2 internal storage options – 8GB and 16GB. However, there’s no word on whether it will have a microSD card slot.
The Nexus 7 will also sport a 1.2-megapixel front-facing camera and will come loaded with a battery which promises to keep the device juiced for up to 9 hours.
In addition, there will be support for NFC and Google Wallet, plus Android Beam.
Pricing and Availability
The 8GB and the 16GB versions will be priced at $199 and $249 in the U.S. Both are expected to ship in Australia sometime in July though Gizmodo couldn’t throw any light on local prices.
According to the leaked information, the only bad note about the tablet is that it won't feature a secondary camera. Well, right now, this is just a rumor; hence one does not need to feel low about it, as at the end of the day, this may prove just to be a fake document.
Anyways, the price of the Nexus 7 is quite impressive, and if the rumors turn out to be true, then the new Google tablet may pose a serious threat to the existing Android tablet manufacturers.
