Apple made the anticipated announcement that iOS 6 would bring Facebook integration, in a similar implementation to Twitter where users can call a pop-up window and share a status. The desktop integration, for July's release of OS X Mountain Lion, wasn't announced at the conference: it's coming in the "fall."

Heading to Apple's Mountain Lion page revealed the service isn't coming until the fall. While Apple hardly talked about the integration, it's available in Mountain Lion Developer Preview 4. Also, Apple didn't cite a specific reason for the delay. 9to5mac reported it could be so the release of iOS 6's Facebook integration is closer to Mountian Lion, however.

That also means the iPhone 5 will probably launch concurrently, so Apple can boast Facebook is immediately available across all of its devices. There was no news on the iPhone 5, or a potential refresh to the OS. Apple may be holding back some information for the device's debut.

"This fall OS X will be even more Facebook friendly. With built-in Facebook support, you can share what's up with you right from the app you're in. Post photos or links. Add comments and locations. Just sign in once, and you're all set up. OS X adds your Facebook friends and their profile photos to Contacts so you can find them fast. When friends update their information on Facebook, it's automatically updated on your Mac. Your Facebook notifications show up in Notification Center. And you can even update your status from there," Apple said on its product page.

Rumors of Facebook for iOS and OS X have been rumored; Tech Crunch's sources claimed Apple was negotiation integration with Facebook, at the time saying it wasn't guaranteed. It did claim the integration would be similar to Twitter, and it is, while predicting the service wouldn't come to OS X Mountain Lion.

At WWDC Apple also revealed features such as the rumored Google Map rival, along with Siri improvements and a new app that collects all of a user's boarding passes. For those wanting to test the software, the Developer Preview is available now for $99 per account.
