Reports have shown that the Fitbit Charge 2 has been named as the best fitness tracker in 2016, beating the Samsung Gear Fit 2 and Microsoft Band 2 to the first place. With its latest substantial firmware update, Charge 2 is now made even better with its five new features.
Fitbit concentrates in terms of accessibility and convenient usage for their fitness trackers, instead of focusing on more complex running and fitness technology. With sleep, exercise, heart rate tracking, and more, the Charge 2 is more likely to become a well-spec'd wearable that's within a user's budget, TechRadar reported.
With the new firmware update, Charge 2 users can now pause and resume their exercise tracker by tapping the Charge 2 button --- a welcomed feature in any fitness tracker. However, it only works with the multi-sport exercise mode or workouts that users can manually start and stop tracking, versus those workouts that Fitbit tracker automatically detects and records.
Fitbit Charge 2's Relax mode provides guided breathing sessions to help users calm; however, they have to follow visual guides to know whether it's time to inhale or exhale. Charge 2 users can also close their eyes during breathing sessions, since it is now capable of sending haptic vibrations aside from visual guides --- vibrates once to breathe in and then again to breathe out. Though it can't do any of the things Apple's Breathe App can do, it uses the users' heart rates to guide them on their breathing session, which the said app doesn't have, according to CIO.
Furthermore, the new firmware update enhances the screen's display of users' heart rates by visualizing which heart-rate zone they are in and how far they are to reach the next level. It shows three separate circles, which is more like a tachometer-style --- representing the fat burn zone, cardio zone, and peak zone respectively. Users can now find the battery indicator in Charge 2's display as well, aside from it being displayed in the Fitbit app.
It is also known that the Charge 2 can call, send texts, and notify via calendar on a users' wrist; but sometimes, users' don't want any interruptions. With the new update, the new do-not-disturb mode is going to be very useful wherein users can turn off any kind of notifications that might disturb their fitness sessions.
Usually, Fitbit's firmware updates only fix a few bugs or just add one new feature. However, this new update is the most substantial upgrade that Fitbit has ever had.
