Still wondering why Microsoft is taking such a huge gamble with Windows 8? Let us break it down for you nice and easy. Microsoft can do whatever it wants at this point with its Windows operating system without fear because the company has managed to sell over 600 million Windows 7 licenses, making the operating system Microsoft's most successful product yet.
The announcement came from Microsoft's Steve Guggenheimer at Computex 2012, you know, that trade show in Taipei Japan where the only things worth seeing are the multitude of Windows 8 devices from several manufacturers.
Guggenheimer also mentioned that Windows 8 will be "the biggest launch time in Microsoft's history. In addition to updating Windows client, Windows Server, phone and embedded platforms, there's a massive wave of software and services coming to market that we think will delight customers."
We can't disagree with the man. The company has no other choice but to spend big on promoting Windows 8 since it is such a drastic departure from previous version of the operating system that users have come to know and love over the years.
If Microsoft fails to convince consumers to upgrade to Windows 8, Windows 7 sale figures will no doubt rise above 600 million. Microsoft will have a harder time trying to get the business and the enterprise guys onboard, so for now, the company should put more of its efforts on proving to normal consumers that going the Windows 8 route would be a great decision, and you know what? It really is.
Windows 8 is Microsoft newest operating system that is aimed at competing in the tablet market against the Apple iPad, and the many different types of Android tablets. Microsoft plan to do this by making Windows 8 a jack of trades instead of having a separate version of Windows for tablets. Time will tell if this move by the company is able to convince anyone who is still on the fence about this.
