What was dismissed as a small hardware issue affecting only a few phones has turned out to be a real audio problem for Google Pixel and Pixel XL phones. Several users have complained about audio distortion and crackling noises when using certain apps in the Google phones. Thankfully, a fix may have been made available by Redditor Mark Buckman, who coincidentally also demonstrated the problem and brought it to light.
According to Android Central, this probably is not a hardware problem in the Google Pixel and Pixel XL phones. Thankfully, Google has recognized the problem and is looking into the issue. The problem appears to be more severe in certain phones than others. Certain tech experts believe it could also be partial hardware problem or a 100 percent software malfunction. The issue first came to light via Reddit and Google Product Forums.
Even though Redditor Buckman has provided a possible fix, the methods are definitely unofficial. Therefore, users may try them out at their own risk. The workaround is also a bit complex for the average smartphone user. Google Pixel and Pixel XL users need to unload the Bootloader, install the TWRP recovery image and flash WETA audio. It is better to wait for Google to come up with a fix. The experienced may go ahead.
However, the problem is that Google has not provided a fix yet and had neither mentioned when it will do so. Google may replace units of frustrated and complaining customers but that will hardly solve the issue, reports Tech Times. Recently, issues with the Google Pixel and Pixel XL cameras were also reported but this hasn't yet gained steam. Coming back to the audio issues, some players are also using third-party ROM, which is also not recommended.
For the time being, users have no other choice but to keep your volume off of the highest setting and avoid apps triggering audio distortions. Stay tuned on Mobile & Apps for more updates on the Google Pixel and Pixel XL audio distortion issue.
