Today, June 4, is the beginning of E3 2012 but yesterday - June 3 - Nintendo broadcasted a pre-E3 conference clarifying some of the details of the Wii U. One detail was its online system, which will be called "Miiverse."

The Miiverse is based around communities, allowing users to ask questions and get answers, which was revealed via an advert. The player asked questions without leaving the game, also using a web-based piece of software to set his mood and see what other players are asking.

The player then placed the Wii U at the bottom of his TV, entering video chat with another player. It's unknown whether the person was a friend or stranger, and was described by some fans as a Chatroulette for Wii U. Chatroulette allow people to randomly connect,

The TV screen-esque system from the Wii is gone for the Wii U, instead presenting players with miniature icons of popular games which have Miis congregating around them. The Miis are apparently drawn from a player's friend list, from a friends' friend list and players in the same country who speak the same language.

Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata said the system was called "wara wara" in Japanese, which basically means bustling or commotion around a particular area. Messages can be typed or drawn, though the demo showed one finger being used for typing which could be related to the lack of multitouch.

The system marks a change from previous Nintendo online systems, which have kept players separate while matchmaking - such as that in Mario Kart Wii - has been done without interaction.

Developers will also have access to the Miiverse API for game integration, which will be confined to the Wii U tablet (now know as the "GamePad").

Iwata revisited features such as the Web browser, and the ability to transfer content from the tablet to a TV by throwing content to the TV. A user threw a paused video to the television, which played. A virtual curtain can also be set to conceal content.

Nintendo closed by saying it will show off "concrete" examples of functionality. The company's conference begins Tuesday, June 5.
