"Star Wars" fans from across the globe are likely already preparing themselves for the action and revelations that will be featured in this year's "Star Wars" movie, "Rouge One: A Star Wars Story." However, the upcoming standalone anthology film is seen by some as an appetizer for the main course, which is the upcoming second installment in the main "Star Wars" sequel trilogy, "Star Wars: Episode 8."
While not a lot is yet known about the details of the upcoming new film, a newly uncovered trademark listing may have just revealed the movie's possible title. According to the latest reports regarding the highly-awaited sequel to "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," Lucasfilm may have just accidentally revealed the title of the new installment when it published its 2,000-word trademark listing.
The newly uncovered listing covers everything from clothing, toys, decorations, accessories and full-length feature films. The trademark listing, titled "Star Wars: Forces of Destiny," was submitted to the European Union Intellectual Property Office, which was then quickly spotted by fans and news publications.
As of the moment, the most prominent theory for the possible events happening in the next film would be the back story of the movie's main protagonist, Rey, played by Daisy Ridley. After having revealed her powers in the previous movie, there is obviously something far more to the lowly scavenger than what meets the eye.
The title "Forces of Destiny" would certainly link the idea of Rey having a greater purpose in the "Star Wars" universe, the Jedi and the Force itself. It would also fit with the premise that the next movie would be exploring her past, her true lineage and her ultimate purpose.
Lucasfilm and Disney have yet to comment on the rumor, so there is still the possibility that the title itself might not necessarily be for the upcoming new film. The trademarked title could be meant for any of the studio's other branches, which could include new properties such as a new animated television series or perhaps a brand new video game set in the "Star Wars" universe.
"Rouge One: A Star Wars Story" hits theaters this week, on Dec. 14, while "Star Wars: Episode 8" premieres next year, on Dec. 15, 2017.
