Apple, the company that shunned the idea of ever adopting a stylus, has done the unthinkable and filed a patent for an optical stylus, which leaves us wondering what else Apple is going to get its hands in, now that Steve Jobs isn't there anymore to say no. Apple's optical stylus is really no different from other styluses, well, apart from the ability to interpret what you're going to do.
It has definitely become obvious to Apple that when it comes to drawing on a touch screen interface, fingers are not good and accurate enough, hence the need for a stylus for some of the most basic tasks. With Apple patenting a stylus, the big question is, will the company equip it with future versions of the iPhone and iPad, or is it for an entirely new product yet to be announced by the company?
If you want a stylus for your iOS-based device, you won't have to wait on Apple to make your dreams come true, there are countless styluses available, some worth it, some only worth throwing in the bin. Steve Jobs may have hated the idea of using s stylus with his touchscreen device, but that doesn't mean countless others are not into it and are more willing to poke at their screens with a stylus rather than a finger which tends to leave smudges everywhere.
The next few months leading up to the announcement of the iPhone 5 and whatever else Apple has in store for us will be quite interesting. Who knows, the company might unveil the optical stylus with a brand new device, or this could be a move by Apple to throw off competitors while it secretly takes its time to unleash a new innovation.
