With Microsoft's last hope in the smartphone market slowly coming to life, latest news of its speculated design are surfacing around the Internet.
The Microsoft Surface Phone could be a great competitor to the Samsung Galaxy Note series, according to Tom's Guide. Reported on by Patently Apple, the alleged design for the Surface features a Surface Pen slot, and a single port that looks like a USB Type-C port.
The drawings do not feature any headphone jack, noting the possibility of delivering audio output through the Type-C port - quite similar to that of the current iPhone 7, and the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S8, if the rumors are correct.
Softpedia also noted the similarities of the patent drawings to the current Lumia design language, however without a fingerprint sensor and a camera button. With this, it is most likely that Microsoft will continue to roll out the Windows Hello facial recognition feature instead.
The inclusion of the Surface Pen within the Surface Phone is one of the most-anticipated features of the upcoming mobile device, especially with the Windows 10 Anniversary Update's new Windows Ink Workspace software. Included apps in the suite are Sticky Pad, Sketchpad and Screen Sketch.
However, Windows Central thinks that the patent designs are not for the Surface Phone, but for another Lumia-like smartphone. The design patent looks similar to the Lumia 650, and the speculated Surface Pen slot could just be a standard 3.5mm headphone jack.
Whether the patent drawings are for the Surface Phone or not, it is worth noting that the Surface Phone is now having its trial production with manufacturing partner Pegatron, and is expected to be released sometime in the fall of 2017.
The Surface Phone could also come with Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon 835 processor, a whopping 8 GB of RAM, and 512 GB of storage space. The device is also speculated to include a breakthrough feature, in which a full desktop-grade Windows 10 installation can be emulated within the device.
Stay tuned for more updates regarding the upcoming Microsoft Surface Phone.
