"Blindspot" Season 2 ended with a cliffhanger and a lot of twists and turns are expected as the show comes back on screen next year, January 4.
According to the show's creator, Martin Gero in an interview with TV Guide, the mid-season finale meant a lot to them. The Episode 9 ended with the couple, Patterson and Borden pointing a gun at each other after the latter discovered that he was the mole inside the FBI. As they fight, a gunshot was heard.
"Our fall finale is always a big deal for us. It means a turning point in the season and a shift in the storytelling, so we had a lot of big bangs and we tried to cram them all in there and not make it feel overly full, but we had a lot of ground to cover."
Meanwhile, rumors have it that Patterson will be shot by Borden but will not die as she is set to get revenge when the series returns.
"The good thing is we have the next half of the season, and Patterson is mono-fixated on bringing this guy down, as she never had been. The back half of the season for Patterson becomes a revenge story. Or trying to get revenge," Gero hinted in an interview.
Moreover, there were speculations suggesting that Kurt Weller might be a Sandstorm operative since Dr. Borden is no longer part of the department. This came after the showrunner teased that the new Sandstorm informant will be coming from the FBI. It is further fuelled when he revealed that Weller is important to the Sandstorm reason why the organization is protecting him.
Another rumor circulating on the web is that Kurt and Jane might get close again and is likely to fall in love with each other this time following the betrayal in Season 1.
Furthermore, Gero teased a great twist at the end of the season that could make up a third season.
"A lot of the question you've asked -- like, why the tattoos, what's Shepherd's endgame -- a lot of the big mythology questions are going to be answered in these next 13 episodes," he said.
"And we have a twist ending that I hope... well, I don't want to give a lot away. I think there's a lot of fun to be had, even if you're a casual viewer of Blindspot. This next half of the season is more explosive and more fun, and we're able to turn more cards than we ever have before," he added.
Catch "Blindspot" Season 2 on January 4, 2017.
