AMD and Intel are long time rivals, always trying to best each other when it comes to CPU speed and the power of integrated GPU's. Now another big battle is looming and that is between AMD's Trinity processors that were unveiled recently, against Intel Ivy Bridge. Some will call Intel on this one, but there is more to Trinity than meet the eye, which makes it a worthy competitor to whatever Intel has to throw at it.

CPU Speed

As expected, Intel Ivy Bridge is considerably faster than AMD Trinity, we can't tell the last time AMD actually bested Intel in raw speed. However, it doesn't appear if AMD is willing to compete on that front and may just try to beat Intel on price. Trinity might not be the fastest, but it uses less power, which makes it perfect for netbooks or any laptop that will compete with Intel-based Ultrabooks.

That said, Trinity is not a slow poke. The performance speed is 29% faster than AMD Llano; this is possible due to AMD's new 'Piledriver' cores which first debuted in the company's Bulldozer line of high-end processors.

Integrated Graphics

This is where Intel Ivy Bridge gets beat, and not just any typical knockout, it's a killing. Ivy Bridge integrated graphic power is better than what Intel had to offer with Sandy Bridge, but it is nowhere close to what AMD has done with Trinity, and that is the main attraction. AMD Trinity devices will come packed with a Radeon HD 7000 series GPU for solid gaming performance.
