The youngest and one of the most successful entrepreneurs of our time, Mark Zuckerberg, experienced two life-changing experiences. His company Facebook went public Friday and he married his long-time girlfriend Priscilla Chan, the very next day.
The couple met almost nine years ago while studying at Harvard. Chan, the Braintree, Massachusetts native, after graduating with a biology major in 2007, worked as a fourth- and fifth-grade science teacher at The Harker School in San Jose, California. She left the school in June 2008 and entered UCSF medical school, California, San Francisco. The duo got married within days of Chan's graduation from the medical school.
The ceremony took place in the backyard of their home in Palo Alto, California. Only 100 people took part in the event, said a Facebook Inc spokesperson authorized to speak on behalf of the couple, reported Reuters. There is no information about a pre-nuptial agreement, however, yet.
Reportedly, the wedding meal was catered by local restaurants Palo Alto Sole and Fuki Sushi. And for dessert, the couple decided to go with the sweets they ate on their first date: Burdick chocolate mice.
Zuckerberg, 28, had kept the wedding a secret to even the guests, who had dropped by to attend the party only to discover that the couple was actually getting married. Zuckerberg posted a simple wedding photograph on Facebook, which shows the newlyweds standing against a backdrop of plants and a small string of lights.
The spokesperson also revealed that Zuckerberg presented his new wife a simple ruby ring that he has designed himself. And it was a pleasant change to see Zuckerberg ditching his trademark sweatshirt hoodie for a jacket and tie, while Chan wore a lace-topped sleeveless dress.
