The PlayStation Vita is Sony's newest handheld console. The device, which was released back in February in North America for $249 and $299 (WiFi and 3G models respectively) has only managed sales of 1.8 million units since March 2012. This is mainly due to the lack of available games more than anything else. However, things could change with the release of Metal Gear Solid HD Collection.

Metal Gear Solid HD Collection was released first for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2011 to much fanfare. The collection which includes remastered ports of Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker is one of the best collections of video games that come bundled in one package. The PlayStation Vita is up for getting this great collection come June 12 2012. Sadly, Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker has been omitted for reasons unknown, which is quite the disappointment.

All is not so bad however. Peace Walker might be missing but there will be a code in the package to download the original Metal Gear for free. We suspect many fans would rather to have Peace Walker since it is such a fun game to play, but the original is not so bad, it feels like a whole new game now that it has been remastered.

The overall core gameplay and story is still the same, the only difference is support for 720p HD displays, which can only be found in the remastered version of the games. The PlayStation 3 version of the games all have support for PSN Trophies. It would be a thing of great pleasure to gamers if Konami slapped up the collection with Trophy support. Nothing would make the game any better.

Some features of the PlayStation Vita version of the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection include the ability to use save files from the PlayStation 3 version of the game on the Vita. Cool huh? We agree. There is also optimization for the Vita's front and rear touch controls which is neat, but we are more interested in knowing how well it works.

Question: Do you have a PlayStation Vita? And are you planning on picking up the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection when it is out on June 12?
