Ubisoft may have just confirmed the theme of its next "Assassin's Creed" title, known only as "Assassin's Creed Empire." Or so we thought.
"Watch Dogs 2" has a very interesting Easter Egg hiding in one of its many missions, which is amusingly called "Ubistolen". In this mission, players will be given the task of hacking into the game's version of Ubisoft's San Francisco studio, where a supposedly secret footage of its upcoming title in development is hidden.
The player will then be presented with the said footage, which is shown below. Note that the video contains massive spoilers for the game's side mission so look away if you don't want to be spoiled.
There are three possible things that might be going on about this footage. According to Kotaku, Ubisoft may have just cheekily teased a new game in development, which means that we may be getting a new space game from the French publisher soon.
Another interesting theory, according to GameRant, is that the company may have just been taking a playful poke at Hello Games' now infamous game "No Man's Sky."
But it does not end there. According to Power Up Gaming, Marcus will also be tasked to intercept a conversation between two fictional Ubisoft employees, and one of them will say, ""Can you assure me [the trailer won't be leaked]? After what happened with Unity, Syndicate, Osiris-"
"Osiris", which known to us all as the Egyptian god of the Underworld, is incidentally the codename of Ubisoft's now defunct IP. Check out the video below.
Ubisoft may simply be referring to the cancelled IP in the "Watch Dogs 2" easter egg, but fans are also speculating that it may have been pointing to the upcoming "Assassin's Creed" title, since "Osiris" was mentioned after "Unity" and "Syndicate," which obviously refers to "Assassin's Creed Unity" and "Assassin's Creed Syndicate."
Ubisoft's CEO Yves Guillemot said during a recent investor's meeting that the upcoming "Assassin's Creed" title, which is rumored to be set in Ancient Egypt, is coming along nicely, according to Segmentnext. The executive also said that he has recently seen the game and it is looking nice so far.
Fans have much to look forward to when "Assassin's Creed Empire" finally hits the shelves, hopefully the soonest time possible. In the meantime, there's "Assassin's Creed Ezio Collection" coming out on Nov. 15, and the much awaited "Assassin's Creed" movie, starring Michael Fassbender, will be leaping to the big screen in December.
