"Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo" won big in ratings on Nov. 1, Tuesday, when it aired its finale episode after a two-month run. The historical drama starred Lee Joon-Gi and Lee Ji-Eun aka IU. However, despite constant plead from fans, the show might not get its Season 2 on SBS.
While thanking his fans for their love and support, 34-year-old actor Lee Joon-Gi indicated that there will be no more episodes for the mini-series.
"Please don't be too upset that our drama has ended. I will meet you through another great production soon," he said.
In addition, the female lead, IU revealed that the drama has reached its conclusion and it might not return on screen again.
"Our drama has finally reached its conclusion. I find it hard to believe that Scarlet Heart is over and feel very sad about it," said the actress.
Fans started to speculate special episodes to be aired since IU teased some possible unaired or deleted scenes.
There are speculations that the photos may be behind-the-scenes cuts from the filming of a special unaired scene, where IU and Lee Joon Gi's reunite in the modern times.
"There are no confirmed news about the rumored special episodes. Let's wait for further update if there will be one or none," read a post on its one of its Twitter fan page.
Meanwhile, the online petition filed by an Italian follower of "Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo," urging SBS to renew the show for a second season, has been signed by more than 48,203 fans. The number of supporters is likely to cross 50,000 in the coming days, after which it will be send to the broadcasting network.
Although the "Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo " creators had plans to air a special episode with an alternate ending, including the clips of making videos and deleted scenes, Lee Joon-Gi, IU and the period drama staff have not confirmed anything about it or the unlikely Season 2.
