"Scarlet Heart: Ryeo" ended, but fans are expecting a Season 2 to give way for their unanswered questions and are even pleading SBS to give a happy ending to Lee Joon Gi and IU's characters Wang So and Hae Soo.
To recall, supporters of the drama started a petition and posted it in Change.org stating, "Make "Scarlet Heart:Ryeo- Season 2" possible!"
"As all of you can notice, "Scarlet Heart: Ryeo" is having a huge and massive impact on k-drama fans all over the world, despite the low and unjustified ratings in Korea," the petition reads.
Despite the positivity of the said request, it is still important to note that nothing is official yet. Surely, it might break its target and reach SBS, but the decision still depends on its producers. And in case the producers give it a green light, it is still important to consider other aspects of creating it like the actors' availability and willingness to do a sequel, given that the petition specifically asked for all of them to reprise their roles.
According to recent reports, it seemed like SBS will give in to fans' plead for second sequel of their favorite historical drama series. Moreover, even the lead casts Lee Joon Gi and IU reportedly teased fans on what will happen to the second season.
IU has reportedly posted a teaser on her Instagram which made fans very excited.
The photo shows two monitors which show IU's character from the drama crying -- as we saw in the last episode -- after she's returned to the present world. But in the right side monitor, you can see a hand holding a handkerchief for IU. The singer's description also reads, "Huh? A handkerchief...?"
Fans are then quick to speculate that this is a teaser for a possible second sequel of "Scarlet Heart: Ryeo" and that the two lead cast will meet in the modern world.
Moreover, Lee Joon Gi hinted some possible plot for the rumored second sequel to his fans during a fan meeting.
The 34-year-old actor even hinted that the second installment could be set in modern times and focus on a reunion between the two protagonists. "I hope he's happier in his next life, and that he stays happy with Hae Soo for a long, long time," he said while interacting with the reporters.
Although SBS is yet to make an official announcement regarding the renewal of the period drama"Scarlet Heart:Ryeo", the cast including IU and Lee Joon Gi, and the rest of the show's crew seem optimistic.
