The Apple event that took place on October 27 only announced the new MacBook Pro. No mentions of the MacBook Air were made despite speculations. Does this mean the end of the road for the thinnest notebook Apple once ever made?

The just-announced MacBook Pro was compared in size, thickness, performance and weight with the current MacBook Air, making it uncertain if the Air brand has been killed off entirely. However, avid users may want to wait until at least late 2016 or until early 2017 before a bigger announcement comes in.

Although there were no update announcements of the MacBook Air at the recent Apple event, the notebook has had a rather minor upgrade, MacWorld said. The upgrades include an optional, additional RAM for the 13-inch model.

Sources reported that Apple is about to discontinue the entire Air product line, including the iPad Air 3, especially when the newer-generation relatives are now thinner and lighter than the current generation Air devices. Furthermore, the 11-inch MacBook Air has been officially discontinued, and it is one step away from completely ditching the Air brand.

The current-generation 13-inch MacBook Air continues to start at $999, which is $300 lower than the Retina MacBook and $500 cheaper than the new MacBook Pro. Pricing in the UK bumped up by £100, however, it is most likely due to Brexit.

One of the most anticipated features for the new MacBook Air is an inclusion of a Retina Display, and more advanced specs than the previous ones, like an Intel Kaby Lake processor, Thunderbolt 3, DisplayPort 1.2 and USB 3.1. It is also rumored that ARM chips will be included in the MacBook Air, as a macOS performance upgrade.

Still, the current-generation MacBook Air is renowned for its 12-hour battery life, more traditional USB 2.0 ports, a Thunderbolt port, and an SD card slot. Avid followers of the MacBook Air will just have to wait for the official announcement of its next-generation successor.

Stay tuned for more updates regarding the Apple MacBook Air.
