The Apple iMac wasn't able to make an appearance at Apple's October 27 event, despite speculations. With unconfirmed reports of the inclusion of Intel's upcoming Kaby Lake CPU into its models, delays are certainly to be expected, along with rumors of new features.

According to Science Word Report, the new generation of iMacs may feature the Touch Bar, similar to that on the next-generation MacBook Pro. The multi-touch OLED strip could be a good addition to users' productivity due to its interactive commands that dynamically changes from app to app. However, this change may be also similar to the Touch Bar in the MacBook Pro replacing the function keys, and may affect users who are used with pressing them.

The iMac 2017 is also rumored to cost $3,199, with 32 GB of RAM and a 2TB Fusion drive, PC Advisor says. The listing, appeared on Best Buy, appears to be slightly costlier than the current-generation 27-inch iMac with similar specs. However, other upgrades in this model aren't known and the text in the Best Buy listing might be a placeholder.

Apple's next generation of the all-in-one desktop computer line could also feature AMD's Polaris 10 graphics architecture alongside its previously-reported Kaby Lake CPU. If the speculation is to believed, it would be possible for users to explore the VR (virtual reality) potential to the Mac, as current-generation iMacs are severely underpowered to perform VR functions effectively.

This graphics processor change could also mean significant performance gains, possible power draw reduction and less waste heat.

Another expected feature is the inclusion of USB 3.1 and Thunderbolt 3 ports. This may also require users purchasing adapters for their devices with legacy ports, as many have complained with the release of the MacBook Pro.

Official statements from Apple can only confirm any of these rumors. Stay tuned for more news and updates regarding the iMac 2017.
