The most hyped "Overwatch" hero, Sombra, has finally been revealed, although not much was said by Blizzard regarding her skills and abilities in the game.
Fortunately, Redditor icominblob was there at BlizzCon to witness Sombra's gameplay. Here is quick rundown of some of the new hero's skills and abilities.
General Stats
Sombra has a passive skill called "Opportunistic," which allows her to see enemies even behind walls, but only if they are below 50 percent health. Sombra can also turn invisible, as seen on the first teaser video, and turrets cannot target Sombra while she is in this state.
Hacking Skills
Of course, it wouldn't be Sombra without her hacking skills. The new hero can hack into health packs, which will recharge it at three times its original speed. Mutiple health packs can be hacked at the same time, and the duration lasts for 60 seconds, denoted by a purple Sombra skull directly above it.
Sombra cannot hack health packs during setup, and also cannot hack a health pack which was already hacked by a Sombra from the enemy team.
Sombra's Ultimate Ability
Sombra's ult destroys not just physical shields, like Reinhardt's and Winston's, but also shields in the health bar, which will put characters like Zenyatta or Zarya at a disadvantage. It is also said to be a direct counter against Lucio's Ult.
So will Sombra be overpowered, as many fear she would be? Well, she did turn out to be pretty OP at first, according to Blizzard, but this was all sorted out prior to her big reveal.
"I think that while she is really strong, and she has a really appealing set of abilities, she's definitely not game-breaking," "Overwatch" senior game designer Michael Chu told Gamespot. "She may be game-changing, it'll be really interesting to see how some of her abilities work in the meta."
"Sombra has gone through a lot of changes. It's a tricky character to balance," Chu explained further. "What can hack do? Sometimes she was able to hack things, sometimes she didn't hack things."
"It's tricky because you're always trying to find the balance between the fantasy, and what works," the game designer added.
"In theory, that seemed awesome. 'Hack all the things!'," "Overwatch" producer Skye Chandler said. "But as we progressed it was finding out what was more fun, and what was most beneficial to your team, not just what was cool to go and poke at."
We will learn more about Sombra as she will be added to "Overwatch" Public Test Realm next week.
