It has been a long time since the iMacs have been update. Earlier, MacWorld reported of a slip-up from US retailer Best Buy showing a Kaby Lake powered Apple PC listed for sale. Apart from raising hopes of seeing the Intel-based CPUs under the hood of the new iMacs, it now seems a potential refresh is coming, perhaps in 2017.
Apple Insider also reported on the Kaby Lake processors based on Speed Shift V2 technology of Intel and great powers it brings to the iMac 2017. Many analysts point the release of the Kaby Lake processors as the reason behind the delay of iMac 2017.
Another anticipated feature in the upcoming iMacs is the VR capability. With all major brands looking to enhance and compete with the VR section, Apple could enter the race soon enough. According to Tech Radar, Polaris 10 and 11 are capable of providing a decent virtual reality experience, components likely to be part of Apple.
Polaris graphic chips can offer faster speeds with lower power consumptions compared with many available graphics chips in the market. These features should help in raising the resolution especially when it comes to gaming.
Apart from the graphic improvements, the fusion drives might be seen as the default storage for the new iMacs. It is highly possible that flash storage can become the next storage standard starting from the iMac 2016.
Other expected features include Thunderbolt 3 and USB 3.1. These features could potentially be killer features for the iMacs 2017.
The iMacs have been one of the most popular products from Apple. An update seems to be imminent as many would love to see more from the powerful PC lineup. Stay tuned for more updates.
