Kang Gary's departure from "Running Man" has sparked rumors that "Descendants of the Sun" actor Song Joong Ki, who was originally associated with the variety show way back in 2010, will replace him.

Kang Gary decided to leave the show to focus on his music, as reported by AllKpop. He was reportedly finding it difficult to concentrate on both genre, so he decided to give up the variety show.

"Gary expressed his desire to focus on his music studies and revealed that he wants to invest more time in music," the producers of the show said. "The 'Running Man' producers decided to respect Gary's decision to pursue his main field as a musician. We sincerely appreciate Gary who has given great effort for 'Running Man' as the original member for the past 7 years."

In addition, his co-star, Song Ji Hyo released a statement about the departure of her partner in "Monday Couple."

"This is something I have absolutely no say in, but, when a colleague decides on his career path, I'll root for him," Song Ji Hyo said at the press conference for "My Wife's Having an Affair This Week today." "I'm sad because we've been together for seven years, but I'll always be his colleague, rooting for him. Please keep Monday Couple as a piece of memory."

On October 28, Gary posted a message on his Instagram account to thank fans for seven years of love through the variety show.

After his last recording of the show, he posted a family picture onto his Instagram on October 31 with the sweet message:"Thank you, 'Running Man.' I've been happy. You were the best moment of my life and I will not be able to forget you."

According to a report, it will be the first time that "Running Man" will change its cast after Song Joong Ki leave the show in 2011. However, there were no official statement whether the "Descendants of the Sun" actor will come back on the hit variety show.
