Samsung and Apple have been engaged in a sizzling fight, where neither of the two tech giants wants to let another one tighten its grip over the patent infringement lawsuit in pursuit of a win. On the other hand, a U.S. court seems to be sick over their bitter fights. For the second time, a U.S. judge has ordered Apple and Samsung to reduce patent claims.

As reported by IDG News Service, Judge Lucy Koh of U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, has ordered the two tech giants to cut down the number of patent claims filed against each other. It is the second such order made by Judge Lucy Koh. Both the rival firms have been given time up to Monday to cut short the case and make it simple enough to be processed on July 30. Moreover, Koh has warned to push the trials back to 2013, in case the firms fail to submit a set of more workable claims. Koh is worried that the case is too complex for a single jury to understand.

"I think that's cruel and unusual punishment to a jury, so I'm not willing to do it. If you're going to trial in July, this is not going to be acceptable," said Koh.

The two companies have filed over 50 complaints in 10 countries. Apple and Samsung - both are agreeing to drop some patent claims. But, even after eliminating some claims, 16 patents, six trademarks, five "trade dress" claims, and an antitrust case will still be left in the case, along with 37 products accused of violations.

Also, Apple and Samsung CEOs are scheduled to sit down later this month on May 21 and 22 to resolve the case in a friendly way.
