After early leaks in January 2012, the worst kept secret in the game industry has been announced officially. Call of Duty: Black Ops II is coming in November and Treyarch Studio head Mark Lamia has leaked some juicy details about the upcoming first person shooter (FPS) game.
Mark Lamia with a team of about 300 developers is handling the task of developing Call of Duty: Black Ops II. Here are the top 10 things that you need to know about the upcoming game.
2025 - The future
There are two time periods in the game - 1980's and 2025. The majority of game is based in 2025, which is also the current time period in the game. Some new technology in warfare is viewed. But do not think of a completely new world. This isn't like Battlefield 2142.
David Goyer - The Writer
The story of Call of Duty: Black Ops II has been written by David Goyer, the famous writer who helped to co-develop the story of popular Batman movie titles - The Dark Knight and Batman Begins. Gamers will experience a thriller action this time.
David Mason - The Hero
Mason family is back in Black Ops II. Gamers will play the role of David Mason - the son of Black Ops star Alex Mason.
Raul Menendez - The Villain
The new game brings a new villain and this one is more powerful and notorious than any enemy seen before. Menendez has high-tech arsenal at his disposal and it is impossible to get to him. Could David Mason be able to capture or kill him? Only time can tell.
Frank Woods - The Narrator
Frank Woods was assumed dead in Black Ops. But behind the scenes, he was able to survive in the bomb blast. In 2025, he is old. Woods acts as a narrator to 1980's story in Black Ops II. Both Alex Mason and David Mason receive help from him.
Rare Earth elements - Control them and control the world
In the real world, China controls about 95 percent of rare earth elements. U.S. President Barack Obama thinks that China's control on these elements is a danger to the world. The real story is carried further in the game, where tension between U.S. and China rises and a danger of war is on the head. These rare earth elements are used in manufacturing of next-generation weaponry.
Los Angeles and U.S. President - In Danger
Raul Menendez - the villain directs a hacked fleet of Drones to attack LA. The drones target a downtown and burn buildings in to ashes. The 2025 President of United States is in LA and David Mason has been assigned the task of escorting her to safety.
Zombie Mode - Kill them all
Call of Duty: Black Ops II will include a separate co-op mode for fighting zombies. There will be a new world with new missions in zombie mode.
Strike Force Mode - The game can change
Strike Force mission are single player missions in the game. Player will have the option to play them or skip them. According to director of Black Ops II Dave Anthony, these missions will indicate how player decision and ability could alter the outcome of the story. Strike Force missions will be available inside single-player campaign.
Horses and Drones - Control it
There is some serious horse-riding in Black Ops II. In a 1980's mission, Alex Mason rides a horse. But in 2025, the ride is going to be unmanned drones that can be controlled by a remote device attached on player's wrist.
