The last update to the MacBook Pro was in October 2015, and with plenty of enthusiasts waiting for the latest installment, the possibility of an October release date seems brighter.

Many believe that two variants of the MacBook Pro 2016 are expected to be launched next month. As reported in Bloomberg, the new high-end MacBook Pro will possibly be thinner and have a casing with a shallower curve around the edges. With a smaller footprint than the current models, the question now seems to be on the processors.

Speculations are rife on Apple's plans for the graphical performance of the new MacBook Pro. With the launch date nearing, it is likely to assume that Kaby Lake processors would not make the cut. The new MacBook could probably be locked into the Skylake design. There is also a possibility of including an option for the latest "Polaris" graphic processors from AMD.

Similar to other Apple products, the 3.5 mm headphone jack is widely expected to be defunct from the new MacBook Pro line-up. It would be logical to assume that Apple would be saying goodbye to the port from rest of its products as well. Considering the current trend, the USB-C port can be expected to make a cut in the new MacBook machines.

The other widely speculated feature in the new MacBook Pro would be the OLED display based dynamic set of function keys. As mentioned in MacWorld, the OLED display touch bar could replace the physical function keys with a new set of customizable software keys. These keys could function according to the requirements of the individual apps.

With Apple planning to introduce the Touch ID fingerprint sensors to most of its products, we can anticipate the same for the new MacBook Pro line-up as well. The sensor would help in faster authentication for Apple Pay Purchases.

From a screen resolution perspective, perhaps an increase in pixel per inch is possible, but a 4K/5K screen does not seem to be on the cards for now. It is much possible that with the touchscreen, we could see an improved Apple Pencil along with new set of Pros. With Apple suggesting it is interested in extending Apple pencil support beyond IPad's display, the idea could potentially make it to MacBook this autumn.
