Apple's supposedly upcoming mid-range tablet, the iPad Air 3, was a not announced in their latest event, where the iPhone 7 and Apple Watch 2 took the spotlight. Was it due to the changes on which hardware to use or is Apple focusing its effort on the Pro line instead?

While there were rumors and speculations of the iPad Air 3 being completely scrapped by Apple, The Reporter Times did cover a report before regarding an eventual release on 2017's first quarter. This, along with numerous reports, assured that Apple may not be ditching the iPad Air series at all.

However, there some reputable research notes that could also be give a huge possibility of iPad Air 3 not happening. One such note from Ming Chi-Kuo indicates that Apple may concentrate on the development and overall improvement of the iPad Pro line.

Kuo's notes didn't indicate any particular iPad model, but it may be unlikely that the iPad being discussed is the Air 3. The probability decreases even more due to the specs of the previous iPad Pro that was introduced last year matches with the one from the research notes.

Still, even with the lack of updates, particular fans of the iPad Air line don't have to kill their hopes of getting an iPad Air 3 because even for the MacBook Pro, Tim Cook had reassured that there would still be further models to be released.

A direct email exchange from Tim Cook himself, courtesy of Mac Rumors, proved that Apple will not abandon the Mac line just yet despite not getting any updates for years.

The same may expected with the iPad Air 3, but if the iPad Air doesn't appear on the first or second quarter of 2017, there may be qualms of it being scrapped for real in favor of the Pro line.
