Though "3 Idiots 2" has yet to be confirmed, there has been an apparently endless stream of rumors surrounding a potential sequel for months now. Recently, Aamir Khan, who played the titular role of Rancho, had reportedly said he would want a sequel to the 2009 blockbuster film.
"3 Idiots," which was released on Dec. 25, 2009, follows Farhan Qureshi (R. Madhavan) and Raju Rastogi's (Sharman Joshi) quest to find their long-lost friend, Rancho (Amir Khan). While in transit to find Rancho, the film takes viewers to their life and misadventures during their college years.
Talks about the possible "3 idiots" sequel started after Aamir Khan, 51, stated he had dropped the hint to director Rajkumar Hirani. It was reported that director Rajkumar Hirani also expressed the same interest in doing a sequel film.
"A sequel to '3 Idiots' is an idea and I have discussed it with (screenwriter) Abhijat Joshi," the actor revealed, as quoted by NDTV movies. "But it will definitely take time."
However, Boman Irani does not have any idea regarding the much-talked sequel film. The 56-year-old Indian actor portrayed the role of a strict college director, Dr. Viru Sahasrabuddhe (aka Virus), who is also Pia's (Kareena Kapoor) father.
"Yes, everything is a great franchise, but I have not idea about this talk, never heard it myself," Boman Irani told PTI, as cited by Deccan Herald. "I am hearing it for the first time."
Nonetheless, other reports claimed screenwriter Abhijat Joshi is already working on the script of the untitled "3 Idiots" sequel. In a recent press meeting, the screenwriter stated he already had an idea for the "3 Idiots sequel," a "Munna Bhai" part three and also for a "PK" sequel.
Though a "3 Idiots" sequel is indeed a pretty cool idea, Abhijat Joshi clarified that the "PK" and "Munna Bhai" sequels interest him the most. He added, "So, I think the 3 IDIOTS sequel may happen in the future, but these two I really want to work."
Stay tuned for more news and upgrades in regards to the potential "3 Idiots" sequel.
