The release date for Polyphony Digital's upcoming racing simulator game "Gran Turismo Sport" has been delayed indefinitely.
Writing about the "difficult decision" on the Playstation Blog, Polyphony Digital founder Kazunori Yamauchi announced that the latest title in its racing sim franchise will not be released in November as originally planned.
"'GT Sport' is Polyphony's foremost competitive gaming title," Yamauchi said, "with high expectations from both the fans and from within our team."
"However, as we approach our planned release date in November, we realize we need more time to perfect GT Sport, which we've already dedicated so much effort towards since announcing the title," the "Gran Turismo" creator explained. "We do not want to compromise the experience in any way."
Polyphony Digital has been notorious for delaying its "Gran Turismo" games in the past, according to Eurogamer, and their latest announcement is no different.
However, most fans speculate that the real reason for the delay is due to the fact that there are other top notch racing sims coming out during the last stretch of the year.
Microsoft's highly anticipated title "Forza Horizon 3" and Monster Games' "NASCAR Heat Evolution," are both coming out before "Gran Turismo Sport"'s original release date. Perhaps Polyphony Digital delayed its release to further improve the game, as it may not be at par with its fierce competitors this year.
Unfortunately, Polyphony Digital did not announce a new release date for "Gran Turismo Sport," and only gave a vague release date window of 2017.
"While we cannot confirm a new release date at this time," Yamauchi said, "we are more committed than ever to making 'GT Sport' the best 'Gran Turismo' game to date."
Despite the release date delay, Polyphony Digital will still continue to showcase "Gran Turismo Sport" at gaming events around the world, including this year's Tokyo Game Show, which will happen later this month.
