An image on the Barnes & Noble website revealed the company is working on a pair of headphones. While not officially announced, expect an announcement soon as the company has already uploaded an image.
There are no details on price, release date, specs or even what the company aims to do with the product. With the Nook Tablet and Nook Color's audio and video capabilities, a Nook-branded pair of headphones seems like a natural transition.
The company also offers a pair of earbuds - the Audio IE250 - for $19.95, so a pair of headphones would be the next logical step.
The listing originally appeared earlier this month, published on April 4, as the company filed a "Nook Audio" trademark back in February by the company's legal team, Fission LLC. Whether Barnes & Noble is looking to launch a one-off product, or a line of "Nook Audio" devices, remains to be seen.
Many thought, when the name first appeared, that the company was releasing a speaker grill, so a pair of headphones is a little surprising.
It should be noted that Barnes & Noble have trademarked terms such as the "Noble Kitchen Sink," so the device could be a one-off.
No such device has come through the FCC, at least not yet, so the lack of documents could indicate the device will lack Wi-Fi functionality.
From the image, it looks like the headphones are made out of plastic and has metal adjustment bars for a range of head sizes. Perhaps the headphones will be released with the Nook Tablet or the Nook Color at a discount to help spur sales.
It's unknown whether the image was an intentional upload on Barnes & Noble's part, particularly as customers can place reviews on the product and the lack of a pre-order page (unless the product will be available to buy alongside the announcement).
The company made no comment on the headphones. So it's a case of wait and see.
