One of this year's hit comedy anime series, "Haven't You Heard? I'm Sakamoto," may not get a second season.
The anime series, also known as "Sakamoto Desu Ga?," is based on the popular Japanese slice of life manga written and illustrated by Nami Sano, and both media were widely praised by the community due to its brilliant humor.
The series' main character is Sakamoto, an extremely popular high schooler who has a reputation for being perfect, and is dubbed as the "coolest" person in school. Due to his perfect nature, some of his classmates envy him, with some resorting to dirty tactics to try and take him down.
Despite all efforts to ruffle his feathers, Sakamoto always comes out on top, and those who encounter him slowly accept their shortcomings and strive to do better.
Ideally, having a perfect character with no inner conflicts as a protagonist could be boring, but Sakamoto is different. His "cool" personality and nature is a perfect fit for the series.
Apart from Sakamoto himself, the series' tone is comedic without being over the top. Sakamoto, with his perfect persona, can be really funny without even trying, and can be a bit quirky at times.
Unfortunately for fans of the series, it is uncertain whether "Haven't You Heard? I'm Sakamoto" will ever have a second season.
Season one already covered the entire manga series, and it is unclear whether the mangaka plans to expand the series or not. Sano has already ended her debut series last December, according to Anime News Network.
The final episode for the anime adaptation was supposed to be aired on TV as scheduled. However, due to the special news coverage of the Kumamoto earthquakes in April, all the subsequent episodes were delayed by a week.
The thirteenth episode for "Haven't You Heard? I'm Sakamoto" will be included as an exclusive episode to the anime's fifth volume of the home video release. This will be out on October 26 this year, according to the official website.
