If you find it difficult to get through your day on a single charge, you are not alone. Our iPhones have truly become indispensable, with things like FaceTime calls and GPS navigation quickly consuming power.

The problem is particularly stark on smaller devices and will worsen with apps and settings you may not use at all. Fortunately, the settings are just tweakable for extending your precious iPhone battery life without abandoning some favorite features.

Disable Haptic Feedback when Typing

Your iPhone might appear fast, but over time, you won't notice that its battery is getting drained. Turn off these settings the next time you open it. Amanz/Unsplash

The haptic feedback feature, which vibrates ever so slightly with each keystroke, is popular but does drain the battery quite quickly—especially for the heavy types on your phone.

How to Turn Off: Go to Settings > Sounds & Haptics > Keyboard Feedback and toggle off "Haptics." For even greater savings, turn off keyboard sounds as well, if your ringer is on all the time.

Use Focus Modes to Limit Notifications

Focus Modes help you minimize the number of notifications you will receive by choosing which applications can reach you at which times. Apple has built-in Focus profiles, or you can create your own.

How to Turn ON: Settings > Focus and choose a profile, then which apps/contacts can alert you if the mode is on, and you can set lock screen or home screen as the notification option.

Reduce Your Screen Refresh Rate

The latest iPhone Pro models boast a 120Hz refresh rate, making the display silky smooth. But using 60Hz draws less power, so it is more likely to help with the battery life.

Change this: Settings > Accessibility > Motion > toggle "Limit Frame Rate" On. This will turn it down to 60Hz.

Disable the Always-On Display

In recent times, Apple has brought the always-on feature. One percent of the battery is consumed every hour. Saving nearly one-quarter of the battery, you can turn this off.

How to Turn Off: Settings > Display & Brightness > Always On Display, switch it off.

Turn Off Nearby AirDrop Sharing

iOS 17 has added a feature scanning in the background to share contacts or files with nearby Apple devices. This constant scanning will quickly drain your battery when in crowded places.

How to Disable: Open Settings > General > AirDrop and turn off "Bringing Devices Together." You can still use AirDrop manually, but this will save battery by reducing constant scanning.

Limit Background App Refresh

Background App Refresh. Apps are permitted to refresh content while you are not making use of the app, and that consumes a battery too. Limit its use only to necessary apps.

How to Change: From the home screen, tap on the Settings icon and navigate to General > Background App Refresh. Turn the function off or allow it on some selected apps only.

Turn Low Power Mode On

Low Power Mode automatically downgrades some features, such as screen brightness and background applications, in order to maximize the life of a battery.

How to enable: Open Settings > Battery and tap Low Power Mode. The yellow battery indicator will turn on the mode.

Screen Brightness and Auto-Lock Time

A higher screen brightness will also suck up your battery life, and you can also turn your auto-lock time to the shortest. This will automatically lock your iPhone when not in use, saving the battery life.

How to Dim Brightness: Click on Settings > Display & Brightness and drag down the brightness slider. Under Auto-Lock, change it to 30 seconds or 1 minute.

Disable Unused Location Services

Location Services drain your battery, especially when used by many apps. Disable location services for any apps you don't really need.

How to Turn Off: Open Settings > Privacy > Location Services and select specific apps for control or turn off all location access for certain apps.

Turn off Unused Notifications

Every time a notification pops up on your screen, it adds to the battery drain. Limit notifications to only apps you care about.

How to Change: Open Settings > Notifications and choose the apps you want to alert you. For others, turn off notifications.
