The extremely popular multiplayer game "Overwatch" is getting a major overhaul for its second season as the Skill Rating and Sudden Death modes are getting some serious changes.

"Overwatch" will now have a more flexible and less-frustrating Skill Rating. Before, the game only featured a 100-point scale with 100 being the best. In the next season, players will get a better representation of the scores as the scale had been incrementally increased to 1- 5000.

"We're also trying to take the focus a little bit away from skill rating," Kaplan said. "We don't want that number to be what you associate with you as a competitive player."

The game will also have a tier-based ranking system this time consisting of seven tiers. These would be bronze, silver, gold, platinum, diamond, master, and finally, grand master. There's going to be roughly 500 points gap in-between the tiers.

In the update, losing a match won't necessarily drop players out from their current tier easily like from Gold or Silver, which will only get deducted by 100 points.

The matchmaking system is also getting a revamp as the game will now be stricter in terms of pitting evenly matched players instead of mixing up different players from different skill levels.

The update also gives the top competitive players all the more reason to play more frequent as there will be a rating decay now. This means ranking will go down as days go by without playing the game and this will give way for other aspiring players working their way up.

Sudden Death will also be removed in favor ties as the players didn't seem to like the feature. It felt more like a coin-flip rather than battling it out leaving the previous efforts on a certain round in vain.

"Ties should be very very rare on the hybrid maps and the payloads," Kaplan stated.

"On the payloads, the only times that a tie is realistically going to happen is if nobody pushes the cart at all... On hybrids, ties will only happen if nobody initially captures the payload."

In case that a game is a tie, both teams earn a small amount of points instead.
